I am a competitive person. Whether it be a board game with the family, watching my favourite football team play (go Tigers!) or timing my run on the treadmill, I am driven by a desire to compete and win. At times I need to remind myself to calm down, as it is only a game. But at times I will harness that drive to overcome – to not let a situation or the negative thoughts in my head, beat me.

I guess this why I like the idea of running with horses. A long time ago a man of God, confused by all the trouble he was encountering, wondered what he should be doing. Into the confusion and disappointment, his God spoke and His words continue to inspire thousands of years later.

“If racing against mere men makes you tired,
    how will you race against horses?”

(Jeremiah 12:5a)

I like the idea that there is more for us than what we currently face – that we can overcome. I like the idea that the difficulties we face can make us stronger. I like the idea that mistakes don’t have to have the last word. I like the idea that we can run with horses…
